Lawyers spend long-hours working hard to meet the needs of their best clients. This is presumably in the advancement of their careers – whether pleasing a partner or building their own client base. However, very few lawyers (or people in general for that matter) spend much time contemplating how to really make the most of the career. It is easy to fall into day-to-day minutiae of practicing law without any real direction.
Evaluating where you are in your career, where you want to be, and how to get there takes no more time than what you spend pleasing your best client on any given matter. Don’t lose sight of why you are working so hard – make the same effort to map a course to your career objective and execute your plan.
